PERSONAL INFORMATION
SHE WORKS WITH THE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM IN EVENINGS AND ON THE WEEKENDS TO HELP PLAN OUT THE PROGRAM AND ACTIVITIES. SHE ALSO WORKS WITH ALL VOLUNTEERS AND DINNER PROVIDERS TO PLAN OUT UPCOMING EVENTS. SHE HAS BEEN WORKING IN THE TRANSITION HOUSE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS. WHEN SHE FIRST STARTED SHE WAS A VOLUNTEER TO MAINLY TO HELP OUT PEOPLE, AND THEN SHE BECAME PART OF THE TRANSITION HOUSE THEN STARTED WORKING THERE PERMANENTLY. SHE HAS A DEGREE IN EDUCATION AND HER MAIN CONCERN IS TO HELP FAMILY'S BECOME FINANCIAL STABLE TO BE ABLE TO BECOME MAINTAIN THEM SELVES.
TYPICAL DAY
A TYPICAL DAY IN THE TRANSITION HOUSE IS THAT ALL FAMILIES HAVE TO BE OUT FROM THEIR APARTMENTS BY 8AM AND ARE ABLE TO RETURN BACK TILL 5PM. THEY HAVE AN HOUR AND HALF TO REST FOR DINNER THAT IS SERVED AT 6:30 AND EACH INDIVIDUALLY FAMILY HAS TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEM SELVES TO HELP OUT. THEY DINNER IS PROVIDED BY VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP OUT. PROGRAMS THAT ARE OFFERED AT TRANSITION HOUSE ARE CHILDREN PROGRAMS, TUTORING, AND CHILD AND INFANT CARE. THEY ALSO OFFER CLASSES SUCH AS PARENTING, ELS, COMPUTER SKILLS, JOB, AND FINANCIAL CLASSES. THEY CLASSES AND PROGRAM ARE ALL OFFERED FOR FREE BASED ON THEIR INCOME. IN TRANSITION HOUSE THEY HAVE A 3-STAGE PROGRAM, WHICH APPLIES TO ALL CLIENTS. THE FIRST STAGE IS EMERGENCY HOUSE WERE FOOD, SHELTER, AND CASE MANAGEMENT LAST UP TO 120 DAYS. THE SECOND STAGE IS CALLED THE FIREHOUSE WERE FAMILIES LIVE UP TO SIX MOUTHS WORKING UP TO A LONG TERM FINANCIAL AND LIFE SKILLS GOALS. THE THIRD STAGE IS CALLED HOMES WHICH FAMILIES ARE ACCEPTED TO LIVE, WHICH THEY PAY ACCORDING TO THEIR INCOME.
FUTURE PLAN
THE FUTURE PLAN FOR CALEY MARK IS TO HELP FAMILIES WORK TOWARDS ON BECOMING FINANCIAL STABLE TO HAVE THERE OWN HOUSE AND TO BECOME INDEPENDENT AGAIN. BY DOING THIS SHE HELPS CLIENTS BY GOING TO CLASS AND PROGRAMS TO LEARN LIFE SKILLS TO BECOME INDEPENDENT. THEY ALSO WORK CLOSELY WITH BUDGET MANGERS TO HELP MAINTAIN A BUDGET AND WEEKLY SPENDING PLANS. CALEY THINKS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR CLIENTS IS WORKING CLOSELY WITH THERE CASE MANAGERS. CASE MANAGERS HELP CLIENTS FIND JOBS AND HELP THEM MANAGE THEIR BUDGET SO THEY CAN HAVE EXTRA INCOME FOR THEM SELVES TO BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN STABLE. CALEY GOAL IS TO CHANGE FAMILY’S LIFE AND TO HAVE THEM GET INTO PERMANENT HOUSING TO WORK THERE WAY ON BEING INDEPENDENT ONCE AGAIN.
CONCLUSION
IN CONCLUSION, WE LEARNED A LOT IN THIS INTERVIEW. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE, WHICH MADE US LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT SHELTERS AND HOW THEY RUN. WE COULD APPLY THIS INFORMATION THAT WE LEARN ABOUT HOMELESS FAMILY'S AND THE WORKER WHO VOLUNTEER TO OUR LIFES TO HELP OUT PEOPLE THAT ARE IN NEED. WE SHOULD SAY THANKS TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS FOR ALL THAT THEY DO AND THE EXTRA TIME THEY PUT IN JUST TO HELP OUT THESE FAMILIES. WERE SO GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A TOUR AND LEARN MORE ABOUT WHAT TRANSITION HOUSE DOES TO HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES IN NEED. WE HOPE THAT THE COMMUNITY CAN COME TOGETHER AND HELP ONE ANOTHER TO GIVE MORE DONATIONS AND THERE TIME INTO SHELTERS JUST LIKE TRANSITION HOUSE.
